Benefits of Martial Arts Training
|
|
There have been numerous studies and first hand accounts over the years about the
benefits of Martial Arts training. Far from being merely a form of fighting, many Martial
Arts students find that training is a truly life changing experience for them. A quick list
of benefits shows that training is much more than Self Defense or exercise, for adults
and children alike.

What Martial Arts teaches to children goes far beyond exercise or fun. Common
benefits include, increased concentration, confidence, self discipline, respect for
themselves and others, assertiveness and politeness. Children are taught how to show
these traits in class, and encouraged to also do so at home. As they become more confident
with their new skills and bahaviour, their grades get better and they begin to understand
the value of a little hard work. Of course every child will progress at his/her own rate, but
these behavioural benefits will appear much more regularly with the parents' help at home.
Now with benefits such as these, Martial Arts training becomes more than exercise and
more than Self Defense. It becomes a method of training in life skills that children need
in order to have the confidence to write their own success stories.

Most adults could use some of these life skills as well, and many do benefit from Martial
Arts training in unforseen ways as they become more efficient and effective, both personally
and professionally. Increased confidence and assertiveness allows people to communicate
more professionally and clearly. You see these people at work, calmly pushing the job to
completion while everyone else gets bogged down with stress and worry about deadlines and
reviews. Those times that the world does seem to be crashing down are the best times to be
kicking your heart out in class. The feeling once you're done is incredible, and most
times your problems seem a whole lot smaller.
